![]() The toy factor calls to mind classics like Space Crusade and Heroquest. The miniatures are very descent and I found them worthy of speed-painting with some Citadel Contrast colours to decent tabletop results. It’s all color printed cardboard so there’s very little prep work required to get this stuff on the table. The game is packaged with a mousepad-style mat, a ton of walls that you clip together with plastic clips, and lots of assorted scatter. The rules writing is a definite downer, and despite the other downer of extended setup time required my litany of love for this game has to include the terrain. It really could have used a solid player reference card. The campaign game lets you improve your crew members, their ship, and do a little buy/sell/trade of gear with various equipment vendors. The rulebook makes learning about and executing all of this stuff unnecessarily fussy and initially bewildering, but once learned the process is quite smooth and relatively free of superfluous crap. Each character has a host of skills and specializations that add a lot of variety and texture. There are NPCs that you can trade with, persuade to join your crew, or they may decide to shoot at your people. Ammo is tracked, and there are weapons you can overcharge to pump out more damage – if they don’t jam. The messy rules buy a lot of neat possibilities on top of the usual skirmish tropes. The result is a very reliable sense of the whole thing just going pear-shaped and descending into absolute mayhem in the back stretch of each mission as teams scramble to get out alive. The first time someone shoots at a Purge robot in a turn, you also add a peg. Further along the Hostility tracker, new enemy types become available and MORE start streaming in through the spawn points. There is a hostility gauge that goes up a peg each turn, and as it increases the likelihood of the Purge (the killer robots) showing up to sour the job. I’m totally in love with this game’s tempo. This is extremely cool, especially in campaign games where maybe that time you helped the other guy or gal out pays out when you are in a pinch yourself.Īnd you will get in a pinch because this design has a built in escalation mechanism. It’s not co-op, but the game’s situation actually creates space for negotiation and alliances of convenience. What I really love about Core Space is that it captures a real sense of being in the middle of a sci-fi shootout, casting you as the action director of episode of an imagined show about scrappy bands of renegades fighting over a score and then maybe finding themselves strange bedfellows as they have no choice but to team up against a horde of killer robots. This is a visceral, exciting game that exists somewhere in the space between cult classic Earth Reborn, vintage ganger-banging Necromunda, and a thawed out Frostgrave in space. Or maybe you’ll pop open a crate to find a sick weapon that you can use or sell for the money. If you’re lucky, your crew won’t be the one trying to drag a downed teammate back to the extraction point. Rival trader crews are tasked with completing raids to accomplish scenario objectives, and these sorties inevitably end in shootouts, lots of looting, and shattered robot bodies. This is the Mass Effect, Firefly, Solo, or Cowboy Bebop game you have been waiting for. Let’s just go ahead and dispense with those “concerns” in the opening salvo here.īattle Systems, a UK-based manufacturer of some really cool cardboard terrain, has cooked up a sci-fi skirmish game to go with their products and the result is a stunner, despite those potential “concerns”. The other answer you might be looking for is also yes. Core Space is worth spending 20-30 minutes to set up.

![]() Five years later, it is still the reigning champ in the world of journaling. I instantly thought it was the best when the app was first released some five years ago. ![]() The overall cost is still impressively low! I’m not keen on the switch to subscription, but as a developer I understand the tension between ongoing improvements and one-time purchases. I like multiple images, and I like having the “a year ago” feature without the data being in someone else’s-FB’s-control. The new interface is a little more intuitive, and some of the new features are nice. I bought Day One (Classic) and wasn’t sure about the upgrade for a while. The latest discovery was coming to understand the different views, and how satisfying it is to see a long streak in the calendar view. And yet, every few months, I find some feature that helps me write more consistently, more quickly, or expand what I’m writing. It has a lot of features, but they don’t get in the way of my fairly simple use. Several years and several versions in, I’m really appreciating the line that Day One walks. Specifications: Zenith Chronomaster Revival A3817 The new Zenith Chronomaster Revival A3817 is priced at $8,400 and is available at Zenith Boutiques as well as on its online shop. The strap version is sold separately for $7,900. Zenith offers the Chronomaster Revival A3817 with either a steel “ladder” bracelet that is a modern remake of the Gay Frères bracelets Zenith used in the early 1970s on many of its early El Primero watches, or with a light brown calf leather strap. There, you’ll see a sapphire caseback instead of a solid steel caseback, allowing a clear view of the new-generation El Primero 400 high-frequency automatic chronograph caliber. The primary technical and aesthetic differences between this homage and the original design are most visible when turning the watch over. Finally, Zenith includes an outer tachymeter scale, as on the original, that serves as a pulsometer. And of course the dial stands out among Zenith chronographs for its 1970s ‘shark tooth’ seconds track, which Zenith faithfully reproduces. The new watch echoes its 1971 forebear with a white lacquered dial set with chronograph subdials of grey and blue, with a running seconds counter at 9 o’clock. The watchmaker explains that it utilized original blueprints so it could preserve the watch’s original proportions and finishes. Zenith has built its Chronomaster Revival A3817 using the same 37mm angled tonneau-shaped case (with pump-style pushers) as the original. Zenith made only 1,000 of the watches in 1971, which only enhanced their desirability among collectors. The original tonneau-shaped A3817 chronograph, with a three-color dial that mimicked the dials on better-known, round-cased El Primero A386 Zenith revived in 20, has been a design Zenith enthusiasts have long sought at auction. The new Zenith Chronomaster Revival A3817. The seconds track is done in a pyramid pattern affectionately nicknamed the “shark tooth” scale, which enhances legibility with a distinctly retro touch.Zenith expands its Revival collection of retro-inspired releases with the new Chronomaster Revival A3817, a faithful reproduction of a 1971 Zenith El Primero chronograph notable for its pyramid-pattern “shark tooth” seconds scale. The outer tachymeter scale also serves as a pulsometer, an especially handy and precise function provided by the high-frequency 5Hz (36’000 VpH) escapement of the El Primero movement. Like its progenitor of 1971, the Chronomaster Revival A3817 features a white lacquered dial with chronograph counters done in the instantly recognizable tones of grey and blue, with the running seconds counter at 9 o’clock done with blue markers, indicated by the single blue hand on the dial. ADVERTISEMENT The story of the Charles Vermot and the El Primero is an often-cited piece of watch lore that's been celebrated both by watch writers and marketing teams. Zenith waited two years after the launch of the El Primero in 1969 before introducing the iconic tri-colour dial to its sportier tonneau case, albeit with a slightly different execution in both function and aesthetic when compared to the A386. The Revival El Primero A3817 is a good example of that, and the new Chronomaster Original will slot in nicely among Zenith's current heritage-inspired pieces. The Chronomaster Revival A3817 is crafted in the same angled tonneau-shaped case with pump-style pushers as the original, using historical blueprints and reverse-engineering to preserve the original proportions and finishes. Given that only 1000 of the A3817 were ever produced, it remains one of the most distinguished, elusive and sought-after references among the early El Primero watches. It combined the sportier steel tonneau-shaped case of the earliest steel El Primero references with the striking tri-colour dial of the A386, resulting in a unique and appealing aesthetic that continues to resonate with vintage chronograph enthusiasts. Released in 1971, the A3817 was the exception to the rule. On one hand, there were sportier models in tonneau-shaped steel cases, such as the A384, and on the other, more classical round cases in steel or gold, most notably the A386. When the El Primero calibre made its groundbreaking debut in 1969, Zenith chose to house it in two broad but distinct watch categories.
